  • Sujith graduated with his B. Tech in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Madras in 1988 with first rank. He did his MS (1990) and PhD (1994) at Georgia Tech, Atlanta, USA, where he received the top graduate student in the college of engineering award. He joined IIT Madras in 1995, and is now an Institute Chair Professor. He is a recipient of the Alexander Von Humboldt Fellowship. As a Humboldt Fellow, Sujith worked in Goettingen and in Munich. He has won the Young Engineer Award of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). He has been awarded the Swarnajayanti Fellowship and the JC Bose Fellowship by the Dept. of Science & Technology (DST). He is a fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering. Sujith is a Hans Fischer Senior fellow of the prestigious Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of the Technical University of Munich, Germany.Sujith does both experiments and theory. He pursues both basic and applied research in the area of Combustion Instability and Laser Diagnostics of Flow and Combustion. Sujith's most important scientific contribution is the discovery of the non-normal nature of thermoacoustic interactions and its role in sub-critical transition to thermo-acoustic instabilities. He was awarded the Swarnajayanti fellowship for this work.Sujith's expertise is sought by agencies like VSSC, GTRE and others. He has carried out projects worth 8 Crores, leading to solutions for various industrial problems and the establishment of state of the art facilities at IIT Madras. He has contributed to many national projects. He has also participated in many international projects both governmental and private.
