The Dual Degree programme in Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras combines a B.Tech. and M.Tech. into an integrated five-year programme. It allows students to build a strong undergraduate foundation in aerospace engineering and progress directly into advanced coursework and a substantial M.Tech. project.
The programme provides greater continuity between fundamental engineering education and advanced technical specialisation. Students can develop deeper expertise through advanced courses, laboratory work, design activities, and project-based learning, while working closely with faculty and research groups.
The integrated structure offers a focused pathway for students who want to develop advanced technical expertise within five years, rather than pursuing the B.Tech. and M.Tech. as separate degrees.
The Dual Degree programme is suited to students looking for a deeper and more continuous academic experience in aerospace engineering, with the opportunity to graduate with both B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees in five years.
An integrated programme in Aerospace Engineering
Admission through JEE.
Imparts fundamentals as well as advanced training necessary for a career involving design, analysis, construction, testing and operation of airplanes, helicopters, rockets and spacecraft.
Involves courses in Basic Sciences, Basic Engineering and Humanities in addition.
Also involves courses in a Minor stream chosen from a wide variety ranging from Physics for Modern Technology to Financial Management.
M.Tech. level courses starting from the seventh semester.
Flexibility in terms of professional electives, free electives, self-study courses and pass or fail courses.
A 14 month long engineering project after the eighth semester.
Fellowship during the final year (subject to certain conditions).
