Reaching IIT Madras The IIT campus is located on the Sardar Patel Road, midway between the Raj Bhavan and Adyar bus terminus and is around 12 km from Chennai Central Railway Station. Other landmarks include the Guindy Snake Park near the IIT main gate and the Central Leather Reasearch Institute (CLRI) campus opposite the IIT campus.
From Chennai Central
Chennai Central has a prepaid auto/taxi service and this is manned by the City Police. The fare to the campus from Chennai Central will be around Rs.250/- for an auto and Rs.350/- for a taxi. When you travel either by Auto or Taxe you can get dropped at the Taramani Guest House, which is about 3.2 kms from the IIT Main Gate.
From Chennai Egmore
If you arrive at Egmore Station, an auto-rickshaw or taxi would it would be the most comfortable option. The fare will be about Rs. 200 for an auto-rickshaw and Rs. 300 for a taxi. you could take buses to IIT, Gandhi Mandapam or Adyar from where there are number of buses to the IIT. Current auto- rickshaw and taxi fares from Egmore are approximately Rs.100 and Rs.200 respectively.
From Airport
If you arrive at the Chennai Airport, you can make your way to the Institute in a Pre-paid Taxi. Mention at the pre-paid counter that you need to go to IIT campus. There are three or four counters: A state-government pre-paid taxi, which is quite efficient, with old ambassadors for about Rs. 300. There are private operators: Aviation express, which operates new Taveras and Innovas for Rs. 500 Fast track, which operates Indicas for about Rs. 400.
